I was doing my regular chores in the house for the day when the boys come running to me. They were a little hysterical because they discovered tegolenna (their little hamster) had escaped. We went on a mission to find her. Searching produced no results. But then, she ran out from beside my file cabinet and was headed to slip underneath the couch. She didn’t make it because our chihuahua snatched it up. We rescued it from his mouth but the hamster wasn’t moving. It was taking small irregular breaths and I knew there was no hope for it to live. I told them to place it back in its cage and we would see what happens.
Well, a few minutes had gone by and the boys hadn’t been back to report so I went to check on them. They were all huddled around the cage on their little knees with their little eyes closed and heads bowed. They were praying! I wondered why I hadn’t thought of that. Why wasn’t my first response to pray? Their first response was to pray to the God we taught them about. The one we told them could and would answer prayer. They believed He could save lives and petitioned on behalf of their pet.
Guess what? The next day that little hamster was running on its wheel as if the day before never happened. It was a miracle. A miracle from a loving God that answers prayer.
And He called a child to Himself and stood him in their midst, and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. “Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:2-4, NASB)
That day showed me what the faith a child looks like and what it produces. As adults we sometimes over complicate things. But it’s actually simple.
In the scripture it says to be converted and become like children. What does it mean to be converted?
The Bible says we are all sinners, none are good and we all fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:10, 23)
We are in need of a Saviour.
The Good News is that God sent His only begotten son that whoever shall believe in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
But how? How do we receive eternal life?
If we believe God sent His Son to die on the cross for our sin and three days later God raised Him from the grave. Then confess it with our mouth we shall be saved. (Romans 10:9)
It’s a free gift! Let us never over complicate it. God loves you and his desire is that all men be saved. It doesn’t matter what we have done. Jesus paid it all. Jesus is our advocate to the Father. Please accept Him today and become His child.
